Letter to Alabama Citizens for Life

I just sent this e-mail to Alabama Citizens for Life. Huckabee could really use their endorsement. Their e-mail address is info@al4life.org.

Dear Alabama Citizens for Life,

I am writing to urge you to endorse Mike Huckabee for President of the United States. I know that you are already planning on making a decision this week, but I wanted to encourage you to support the strongest, most complete, most consistent pro-life candidate in the field.

Much of the pro-life movement is finally beginning to coalesce around Huckabee, at last coming to the conclusion which I, and many others, have long known to be the correct one. State pro-life organizations in Alaska, Arizona, Arkansas, Georgia, Missouri, Montana, and Tennessee have thrown their support behind Governor Huckabee. Although the National Right to Life PAC did not officially endorse a specific candidate, it sent out a statement saying "that Governor Huckabee has taken the strongest pro-life position on all of the life issues of any of the remaining candidates for president." California and Oklahoma right-to-life organizations have also made positive statements about Huckabee's record.

Mike Huckabee is the only candidate who is actively supporting a Human Life Amendment to the Constitution. John McCain does not support such an amendment, believing that we should allow the states to decide for themselves by overturning Roe v. Wade. Although I do believe that is an appropriate first step, I believe it is only that--a first step. For me at least, the pro-life movement isn't about just returning power to the states: it's about protecting all life.

Mitt Romney would like to end abortion, but he doesn't believe the country is ready. That is an apathetic, conciliatory attitude which would serve as a copout if he were to become president. We need a president with passion, not passivity, for life. Furthermore, as can clearly be seen on his website, Romney is in favor of rape and incest exceptions. Now, I understand that we must have compassion for victims of such horrendous atrocities. But we must not respond to such tragedies by permitting another tragedy--the destruction of a human life. Moreover, this type of exception-laden position is not reassuring in light of Romney's pro-choice past.

Mike Huckabee originally got involved in politics because of the abortion issue. He fought for and passed pro-life legislation while governor of Arkansas. He has been a staunch, unyielding, unfailing proponent of life.

If you are concerned about his chances of winning the nomination, let me assure you that he certainly can, but he could greatly use your assistance. Alabama is one of the states which he desperately needs to win on Super Tuesday in order to pull off the improbable feat of garnering the Republican nomination.

Thank you for your time, and I hope to hear of your endorsement of Mike Huckabee with all possible haste.
